Born in Mombasa,Kenya...I spent most of my life in Kenya and joined the modeling world in my last year of my A-Levels. All my life people asked me why the name Aqua Bonsu and to answer most of you, it's because my father hailed from Kumasi,Ghana!
The first fashion house that I worked with was Kikoromeo and later on joined other fashion houses such as African Heritage. I later signed up with Sura Zuri modeling agency and did other shows, Kenya fashion week included.
Whilst in the modeling world I participated in various beauty pageants in Kenya and abroad where I held several crowns;
-Miss Earth Kenya 2001,
-Runner-up Miss Tourism Kenya 2001 (where I was also crowned Miss Hawaiian Tropic Kenya 2001)
-Miss Tourism Nairobi 2001,
-Runner-up Miss Kenya 2000,
-Miss Rift Valley 2000.
As a Beauty Queen, I got involved with a lot of International and Local projects that were involved with Charity work, the Tourism Industry and Environmental programs.
You must be thinking...'oh what achievements she has up her sleeve'....but I would say the greatest achievement has been the success of registering an NGO, Aqua Afrika Development Project (AADEP) a. I thank my mother a lot because she is the visionary of this NGO.
It all started when my father left years back and my mother brought us up on her own. Life changed a lot for us as we had to leave the plush life and adjusted to living a normal life. Going through what we went, we kept a promise in us that wherever we can to help in the community we would do our best to especially when it came to the girl child and single mothers.
As a family we started by helping a child here and there to try and get them into schools and supporting them. As the years went by, the numbers grew and Mum (Ms. Isabella Mfaida) came up with an idea that we should start a foundation whereby the public can be involved in supporting these kids. It took years to do so(knowing the politics behind registration of companies and organizations).
Our patience paid because finally we got registered not only as a foundation but as an NGO.
So far AADEP has been able to:
- Help Single mothers start up small businesses by providing capital for them;
-provide placement in schools for girls who come from underprivileged families,
-start up a Day care in Kawangware for children who have HIV positive parents.
We want to thank God for all he's done and for everyone who made a difference in our lives and encouraged us all the way. I would have named you all but the list is endless and wouldn't want to miss any one!
In case any of you would want to participate or show support of any kind, please contact Isabelle (mum) on +254736435707/+254721285882 since I'm out of the country most of the time and she runs the show.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!!
